What the Surgeon General Has to Say About the Obesity Epidemic

December 4th, 2008 by admin

America’s obesity epidemic will dwarf the threat of terrorism if the nation does not reduce the number of people who are severely overweight, the surgeon general said Wednesday.

“Obesity is the terror within,” Richard Carmona said during a lecture at the University of South Carolina. “Unless we do something about it, the magnitude of the dilemma will dwarf 9-11 or any other terrorist attempt.”

Adderall Diet Revolution

October 17th, 2008 by admin

You may have heard it from CNN or read it online from a blog or news website –that people are starting to take Adderall for weight loss. The Adderall weight loss treatment is becoming popular especially because modern society is obsessed with fad diets and weight loss regimens that provide quick and drastic results. Still, no matter how good some people may describe the results that Adderall has given to them regarding weight loss, this drug still has side effects that can cause health problems and drug addiction, which can even lead to death. If you still want to take it, at least consult with a doctor or dietitian.

What is Adderall?

Adderal is amphetamine combined with Dexedrine prescribed normally to children with ADHD (attention deficit hyperactivity disorder) or ADD (attention deficit disorder). It is also known as dextroamphetamine and it has been around for more than 20 years.

Lately Adderall has been used to fight obesity. Obesity has become an alarming epidemic among young children, resulting in severe health problems even before they reach the age of 10. Some doctors are prescribing Adderall to treat obesity and avoid diabetes. Still, it is advisable not to take Adderall if you have a heart condition, glaucoma, high blood pressure, an overactive thyroid, or if you are taking antidepressants and other stimulants. Consult a health professional and never take a gamble.

Whether Adderal weight loss really happens is still subject to debate. There are certainly some interesting success stories. CNN highlights the story of a boy who was prescribed Adderall by his doctor. The boy was considered obese and the drug made him lose a lot of weight over the many years that he was prescribed to take it. The doctor states that he has prescribed the drug to 90% of his patients suffering from obesity and all of them lost weight.

Still, some people still criticize the use of Adderall for purposes other than for treating ADHD. Ask your doctor before taking it.

For proper nutrition, it is important to take a health supplement.

My Weight Loss Story Day 41

October 16th, 2008 by admin

Ok, I fell off the wagon with my weight loss. It has been two weeks of too many parties. I am back to it this week. The great news is that I haven’t found some of the pounds I lost, I just haven’t lost any of them either. Sometimes life just gets in the way. So I am back at it. A great mentor of mind says don’t beat yourself up when things don’t go quite right. If you have a great day and obtain your goals, pat yourself on the back and say “Good Job”. If the day did not go so well, it’s neutral. Not bad or good.

I am back to having a shake for breakfast and lunch. Each night I am having a sensible dinner and a bedtime snack to keep my metabolisum going all night. I am determined to loss the weight.

Extra Pounds Put You at Risk!

FACT An estimated 20% of all cancer deaths in the U.S. are linked to being overweight.

FACT Obesity related heart disease kills 17 million yearly.
FACT Not getting proper nutrition can lead to immune deficiencies, higher risk of illness and disease, and can shorten your lifespan.
FACT The risk of stroke goes up as body weight increases. Those 10-19% overweight have a 50% increased risk of stroke; for people at least 20% overweight and considered obese, the risk doubles.

Your boby will work hard on it’s own to help you recover, but you can help it along. Thousands of chemical reactions and biological reactins tha thelp you heal. Even though these processes are involuntary and automatic, there are things you can do to speed up and strnghten your recovery. The best healing occurs when you are ablt to optimize your immune sysytem to aviod infections and encourage the healing of skin, bones, muscles, nerves, and tendons. You want to biuld your strenght and endurance.

One of best methods to optimizing healing is to get adequate nutrition. There are vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants that help you heal. Vitamin C is crutial to repair your connective tissues. Bromelian, found in pineapple, reduces swelling, brusing, and pain.

You need to eat regularly to make sure your body has the fuel it needs. Your body needs complex carbohydrates for energy. You also need adequate protein to repair your cells. You need a minimum of 20%. Eat at least 5 servings of fruits and vegetables to obtain vitamins and antioxidants.

My Weight Loss Story Day 24

September 24th, 2008 by admin

I am jazzed! I have now lost 17 pounds. I have so much energy I now walk when I play golf instead of riding in the cart.

I was talking with my friend Larry Colman and this is what he had to say about the program:

“With the ViSalus Trim Slim Shape™ Program, I have lost 83 lbs. in about 5 months. More importantly, I’ve been able to lose weight for over 24 weeks without a plateau. I’ve lost a total of 33 1/2 inches - 10 inches from my chest, 9.5″ from m waist and 14″ from my hips.

It’s been an incredible journey and I can’t wait to hit the 100 lb. mark. My original goal was to be down to 300 lbs. by December 31st, but I think I need reset my goal to 280 lbs. My average weight loss is 3.83 lbs. a week. Incredible but true! I have it documented in my trusty TSS journal! With diet, exercise, and the TSS program I am amazed by my results. Just as a side note, I’m going today, to buy some new clothes …again! Thanks for your help, support and….the TSS Program™”.

My Weight Loss Story Day 20

September 21st, 2008 by admin

Well, I have lost another pound. That bring the total to 16. Not bad at all. This is the easiest diet I have even been on, and I have been on a lot. I am not obsessed with food and worrying about what I am going to eat for my next meal. The vitamin effects have made a big difference in my energy. I don’t have to worry about getting proper nutrician either. 20 more pounds to go.

I will be traveling this week to attend my father -in-laws 80th birthday. I don’t want to go off the diet. Measuring and bring scoops of powder do not make much sense. I know I can always get milk anywhere I go, so I am bringing Vi-Shape Nutritional Shake Mix Packets with me. Each packet is pre-measured for you to mix with milk or water. There are 15 packets to a box. It’s just $1.86 a serving.

My Weight Loss Story Week 2

September 15th, 2008 by admin

I am now at week two. I made it though a weekend of parties without gaining any weight. I still had my shakes for breakfast and lunch, which helped me control my appetite. I did drink sangrias and eat cheesecake, but in small portions.

I have found that planning what I am going to have for dinner in advanced helps. I know I can’t stand to eat plain chicken breast and broccoli every night without going out of my mind. I have to make sure everything has a lot of flavor so I am satified with it. I have been using pork tenderloin quite a bit as it low in fat and very versatile. One of my favorite recipes is Marjoram Pork with Mushroom Gravy. Mushrooms have almost no calories, but they fill you up. I use low fat evaporated milk in the gravey. It makes it creamy but doesn’t add a lot of calories.

They had fresh raspberries on sale yesterday at the supermarket, so I had a raspberry shake this morning. Yummo, as Rachael Ray would say. Spaeaking about flavor, I ordered some mix ins for my shakes. They have chocolate and strawberry available. The chocolate Shape up Health Flavor Mix-In has antioxidants that protect your heart. I am a chocoholic from way back, so I am delighted it is good for me. The stawberry flavor also has antioxidants and are sugar and fat free. They are really convenient. I know in the winter, fresh fruit will not be as readily available.

My Weight Loss Story Day 11

September 11th, 2008 by admin

I am happy to report I step on the scale this morning and I have lost 15 pounds. I am down one size. One more size to go and I will fit into most of my clothes. I do NOT  want to ever find those pounds again.

I have experimenting with different flavors so I do’t get bored. Blueberry was a favorite. I have also made my version of a Reese Peanut Butter Cup. I added a teaspoon of peanut butter and a couple of teaspoons of dark cocoa. Yummy!

I went to play golf today and I had so much energy I walked instead of riding in the cart.  I forgot to eat lunch after. I finally realized it at 2PM. No stomach growls.

My Weight Loss Story Week 1

September 8th, 2008 by admin

I am so excited. It has been a week since I weighed in at 178 pounds. I am happy to report that I now weigh 164 pounds. Wow! A weight loss of 14 pounds! I did not think this was possible. I can not believe that I am not hungry and cranky all the time. It is easy not to overeat at dinner when you are not very hungry. I definitley have more energy.

It was recommended on the ViSalus website that I take health supplements to get the proper nutrition. The ViPak. The Vi-PAK is an advanced Anti-Aging and Health System designed to give your body the nutrients that most daily diets simply lack. Packed with a chelated Multi-Mineral & Vitamin, a supercharged Antioxidant, a proprietary Omega Vitals blend and a patented Anti-Aging & Energy formula, the Vi-PAK gives your body everything it needs to perform at peak levels.

I know I need to start excersing also. I am planning on starting with 30 minutes of walkiing almost every day. The dog is going to love it.

Please join me on this plan. It is working for me.

My Weight Loss Story Day 3

September 4th, 2008 by admin

Hi Everyone,

I am so excited with how this is going. I could not resist the temptation to weight myself this morning. I must have been carrying a lot of water because I lost 10 pounds!  Unbelievable! I know that experts say to only weigh yourself once a week, but I couldn’t wait. I don’t think this is typical, but it worked for me.

Yesterday I had a shake with a teaspoon of peanut butter for breakfast followed by a plum shake for lunch. These shakes are really good. The best part is that I am not hungry! I had a chicken salad with low fat dresing for dinner.

Today I added 1/2 cup of pineapple to my shake. This is going to be a favorite. For lunch I was out and about, but I had put the shake mix in a shaker bottle and just added milk. This is so easy.
